     This book is for anyone preparing for the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Certificate of Proficiency in English (Proficiency/CPE) exams and covers the grammar needed for these exams. You can use it to support a CAE or Proficiency coursebook, for extra grammar practice on a general English language course, or with practice tests as part of a revision programme.     This book is designed to revise and consolidate grammar points at the level of Cambridge ESOL First Certificate or Common European Framework Level B2. It also provides practice in key lexical areas. There are regular consolidation units which include forms of testing commonly used in the First Certificate examination.
It can be used as a self-study reference grammar and practice book, or as supplementary material in classes preparing for examinations.
If used for classwork, activities can be done individually or cooperatively in pairs or small groups. The grammatical information provided can be used for reference when needed, or worked through systematically.
The grammar section includes recognition and concept-checking activities, as well as production activities.

However, it is the more general words used for discussing ideas and research and for talking and writing about academic work that you need to be fully familiar with in order to feel comfortable in an academic environment. Despite the fact that they are much more frequent than specialist words, these more general words are often felt to be more difficult to learn. It is, therefore, extremely useful to approach them in the systematic way suggested by this book.
