Read the text and tick the correct endings in the sentences below.
Everybody knows that Columbus discovered America. But was it really Columbus who discovered this land? In the 10th century, more than 400 years before him the Vikings came to the northern part of America, on an island named Greenland. Later a Viking explorer Leif Eriksson decided to sail to the south to find lands more comfortable than Greenland. After a long voyage Leif and his seamen discovered a new land, which was very rich. They named it Vinland. They stayed there for a long time and returned to Greenland. In three centuries the Vikings went away from Greenland to Europe.
But Columbus’s voyage is very important because it connected two continents and ships from different countries began to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
