This book is a contrastive study of English and Arabic at the phonological, morphological and syntactic levels. It is intended primarily for those involved in learning and teaching English as a foreign/second language (EFL) as well as Arabic as a foreign language (AFL). It is also intended for those involved in Arabic-English translation, both translators and translation trainers. This introductory chapter covers five topics: contrastive linguistics (CL), varieties of Arabic, objectives of the book, linguistic model and comparability, as well as an outline of the chapters.
